QUALITY BEEF
We pride ourselves on the rich flavor of our grass fed beef.  Unlike commercial feedlot cattle, our herd has freedom to wander the ranch, foraging on whatever strikes their fancy.  Native grasses, juicy leaves, and even the occasional Prickly Pear cacti are all on the menu.  No growth hormones or antibiotics are added, and our herd is kept grain-free.  Our winter hay comes from neighboring pastures and we even maintain our own bee hives to ensure excellent forage pollination.

HEALTHY CATTLE
Our herd is comprised of purpose bred Angus, Angus/Hereford, and Angus/Beefmaster cattle, with a few CTLR Texas Longhorns for protection from predators.  Well above typical “sale barn” quality, we breed for overall health and stable temperament over maximum profit per head.  Our secondary focus is calving ease and good weaning weight to add value.  Semi-annual vaccinations are performed onsite to eliminate transportation stress and maintain herd health. 

GENTLE HANDLING
Humane animal handling is also a serious focus for us at WTR.  You won’t find “cattle-prods” and other loud, high stress practices as found at many operations.  Instead, we follow low stress “pressure” processes emphasized by world-renowned experts like Dr. Temple Grandin, Texas A&M’s Dr. Ron Gill, and others to ensure safety for our animals and staff.  Generally, our cattle are docile enough to be hand fed apples and other treats.  A calm cow is an easy cow.
